Acme Movers is currently only moderately compatible with CopyDoubler (by Fifth Generation Systems, distributed by Symantec) during certain operations. The major compatibility issue is that when Acme Movers’ Confirmation option is turned on, Acme Movers will confirm cross-volume copy operations before CopyDoubler even begins them. This is due to the fact that CopyDoubler sends its reply AppleEvent before it begins the requested operation (instead of after completion, as the Finder does). There is nothing that can be done from Acme Movers’ end of things to remedy this situation.
Also note that with Confirmation turned on and CopyDoubler installed, Acme Movers will confirm any cross-volume copy as though it was completed, even if you click the “Stop” button in the middle of the copy. This, too, is due to the fact that CopyDoubler sends its reply AppleEvent before it begins the requested operation (instead of after completion, as the Finder does). The folks at Fifth Generation Systems may be good, but they weren’t quite good enough to read your mind and know you were going to cancel the copy and send the reply event accordingly.
These incompatibilities are among the reasons that a future version of Acme Movers (probably version 2.0) will include its own “copy engine” to give Acme Movers more control over what’s taking place and more information about whether operations were completed or aborted. (That and the fact that we feel there are improvements that can be made over any existing products we’re aware of.)
Also note that under certain conditions, the “OK” button in the Confirmation dialog does not properly display the heavy outline indicating it to be the default button for the dialog. However, pressing the Return or Enter key still selects this button. The problem seems to be in the Mac OS rather than in Acme Movers, but we are still searching for a solution or work around.
ACME MOVERS VERSION HISTORY:
Version 1.1p1: Smaller than Version 1.1 by about 60K (thanks to trimmed fat — there were no changes in the way anything works). Contains updated contact information. Released early July, 1996.
Version 1.1: Introduced a wide array of new features (see Chapter 2, “What’s New in Version 1.1”). Minor bug fixes (most notably compatibility issues with machines without Color QuickDraw installed and machines using Super Boomerang from Now Utilities).
